Orange County, CA Registrar of Voters recently demonstrated the Hart Accessible Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) that will be used in the June 2006 Primary Election.

“We are pleased to be bringing Hart’s VVPAT to the voters for the first demonstrations in Orange County,” said Neal Kelley, Acting Registrar of Voters for Orange County, California. “We want to hear from voters and the brief questionnaire will be used to obtain voter feedback on the required system,” he continued.

Hart InterCivic’s Accessible Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) provides a paper record of each vote cast on the eSlate®. A voter may inspect the paper to be certain that it is identical to the vote cast upon the County’s electronic system. California Law requires the VVPAT and all counties using electronic voting systems must implement the VVPAT for all elections held after January 1, 2006.

“We believe our eSlate VVPAT unit will completely satisfy the State’s requirements for a paper record. Further, we believe the eSlate will provide a pleasant experience for both the voter and the poll workers charged with administering the equipment in the polling place,” said Hart InterCivic’s David Hart. “The introduction of the VVPAT will be a critical element for success in the Spring elections in Orange County. We’re pleased to continue to work with customers like Orange County who take a proactive approach to voter education.”
